KATHMANDU: On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Office of the Prime Minister and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal (OHCHR) on Wednesday jointly released a minute-long television clip highlighting the violence against women who are alleged to be participating in witchcraft. The video will be broadcast by Nepal Television for a month from Wednesday evening.

Witchcraft is being practiced mainly in the rural Terai region of Nepal where the woman especially widows are ill-treated, tortured, brutally beaten-up and even forced to eat human excreta. These acts are gross violation of human rights punishable by national and international laws.
