DHANKUTA: Transport services in hilly districts of Koshi zone were disrupted on Wednesday due to a strike called by a transport workers’ union. The union called the strike after talks between its representatives and local administration in Sankhuwasabha failed. Transport workers’ leader Ongda Tamang said transport workers are agitating for the last four days demanding action against Bindra Limbu, who thrashed a taxi driver Nagendra Khadka nearly a week ago. They are also demanding the release of five taxi drivers who were arrested after they counter-attacked Limbu. Passengers were stranded at different points due to the strike. No vehicles left for Bhojpur, Khotang, Sankhuwasabha and Terhathum. Ganesh Thapa, Chairman of Nepal Transport Free Workers’ Union, Dhankuta, said they will continue the blockade until the arrested colleagues are freed.
