Agitating student unions distribute admission forms

KATHMANDU: Demanding the Tribhuvan University (TU) to roll back its decision to hike student fees, Free Students' Union (FSU) of different campuses today went defiant distributing admission forms to students who thronged the campus premises wanting to enroll for bachelor's degree. Admission office is the legitimate authority to issue admission forms. Students' move follows TU's earlier decision of a ten-fold hike in fee for new enrollees at the bachelor's and master's level. Raj Kumar Rai, president of FSU, Ratna Rajya Campus, told The Himalayan Times that the form distribution was part of their week-long first-phase of protest programme against the decision of the TU. 'We distributed to the tune of 60 forms today to students aspiring for higher education,' he said. Nain Singh Mahar, vice president of Nepal Students' Union, said the students affiliated to various student unions successfully took part in the form-distribution programme. Agitating students have announced a one-hour-long sit-in before campus chiefs' offices of different colleges, tomorrow, followed by sit-in at the Vice Chancellor's office on Friday, demanding the latter to roll back its decision.
