KATHMANDU: Thanks to the load shedding the programme began one-and-a-half hours late, but it was worth the wait. It was a delightful evening when Hari Maharjan and Project, Black Out, Suvhaprabhat and Band and Saastra began playing some cover mostly of the classic rock era and some originals at the Electric Pagoda on November 27. The event titled ‘Tribute to Rock’ was organised by Faith Creation and Event Management Private Limited dedicated to all-time favourite rock bands and singers. “It’s a musical tribute to classic rockers and therefore we will be doing cover songs,” said Kumar Maharjan, drummer from Black Out. They made a groovy start by singing Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd. Following the classic rock song pattern, they continued singing hit numbers like Black Night by Deep Purple and The Troopers by Iron Maiden. The musical programme started with an album launch — Naulo Tirkha and Subha Prabhat by singers Nabin Pradhan and Prabhat Manandhar respectively. “I have carved various genres of songs into my album Naulo Tirkha ranging from typical eastern folk songs to modern,” said Pradhan. On the other hand, Subha Prabhat as according to Prabhat Manandhar is a collection of pop songs. The evening saw band Saastra performing Back in Black, TNT, Highway to Hell, Burning Alive, Gone Shooting, Hard as a Rock by AC/DC. These hard n core rock numbers captivated the audience who stood up and gave their best versions of head bangings. Like the force of magnet, all those seated far from the stage crowded near it swaying back and forth with the band’s beats. Similarly Suvhaprabhat and Band sang a few of their originals like Dukha, Sunideu, Change and Freedom from Subha Prabhat album. Hari Maharjan and Project also sang original numbers like Soul in You, Tisha, Chyante Godha and a blues number Nostalgia from Maharjan’s upcoming album Kala Karmi. “I felt good listening to live performance dedicated to classic rockers,” said singer Preeti Kaur, who was one among the audience.
