NIMS, Lumbini triumph KATHMANDU: Nitin Memorial International School (NIMS) and Lumbini on Tuesday won their respective senior girls' matches at the fifth Unique Inter-school Valleywide Basketball Tournament. NIMS outclassed hosts Unique 21-3 riding on seven points from Binu Shrestha while Lumbini saw off Advance 6-0. Jagat Mandir, Galaxy, Young Heart and Grammar School won the junior boys' matches. Jagat Mandir beat Elite Co-Ed 10-5, Galaxy sneaked past HIMS 22-2, Young Heart overcame Awareness International Academy 13-12 and Grammar defeated Paragon 26-4. In the senior boys' three-on-three, Galaxy outplayed Midland 19-7, NIMS saw off Universal 23-18 and Unique sidelined Jagat Mandir 33-13. Nepali beat IM KATHMANDU: Nepal champion Badri Lal Nepali defeated International Master Atanu Lahiri of India in the Jugal Kishor Newatia Memorial International Open Rating Chess Tournament in Assam on Tuesday. 2124-rated Nepal outplayed 2394-rated Lahiri - top seed of the tournament -- in the third round followed by another win against 2213-rate Anurag Jaiswal of India again in the fourth. After the completion of the fourth round, Nepali has collected four points with a 100 percent winning record to lead the points table. Inter-school volleyball KATHMANDU: Newton High School is organising the second Newton Valleywide Inter-school Volleyball Tournament here on December 4-7. A total of 22 teams -- 12 in boys and 10 in girls section-- will participate in the league-cum-knockout tournament, said the organisers here on Tuesday. The league stage will be played in the best-of-three and the knockout stage will be played in the best-of-five sets. Best lifter, blocker, spiker, server and best player will get cash prizes, informed the organisers. Brief add BARDIYA: Bardiya National Park and Tiger Tops Spice Girls won their respective league round matches at the 28th International Elephant Polo here today. National Park defeated Century Ace 8-4 and Spice Girls overcame NGS Energy 8-3. In other matches, Karnali Dolphin was outplayed by Tepa of Thailand 8-3, Chivas Regal of Scotland sneaked past New York Blue 10-3, Tigers Tusker defeated Frog Hunter 4-3 and Force Rock Choice edged past Pukka Chukkas 5-1.
