Kathmandu, April 26:
The National Human Rights Commission recently wrote to the Chief Justice Hari Prasad Sharma seeking his answer on why the Supreme Court has not scheduled hearing of a case seeking review of its verdict. The NHRC letter came in response to a complaint filed by advocate Dhruba Koirala, who has claimed that the Chief Justice has violated his rights by not deciding over a case for a long time despite repeated requests. In his complaint, advocate Koirala has sought NHRC’s recommendation to the apex court to settle the issue. Koirala has claimed that the NHRC has the right to recommend any court of law to decide any case on time as per Section 11 of the NHRC Act. Almost three years ago, Koirala had filed a petition seeking review of the Supreme Court verdict, which upheld the dissolution of the House by the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. Source said the rights watchdog has sought explanation from the Supreme Court within seven days on why the case was delayed.
