Koirala stresses on mechanism

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala on Saturday stressed on the formation of the high-level political mechanism as she sees no other alternatives to resolve the political deadlock.

Speaking with reporters on her arrival from Myanmar after participating in a three day ministerial meeting of Bengal Initiatives for Multi-Sectoral Technical Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Koirala informed that the visit had been fruitful one to establish cooperation among the member countries.

“The ministerial meeting has signed the convention on cooperation in combating international terrorism, transnational organised crime and illicit drug trafficking” informed the Deputy Prime Minister. She further informed that the BIMSTEC had identified 14 priority areas for cooperation where Nepal has taken the responsibility of 'lead country' for eliminating poverty. “We are holding a meeting for eliminating poverty at the beginning of 2010”, added Koirala.

Koirala further informed that the meeting also raised the issue over the solution of the problem of Bhutanese refugees.
