Nuwakot, May 1:

District Development Committee (DDC), Nuwakot, is planning to launch a special programme to electrify all its VDCs.

Earlier, in order to electrify all the VDCs within five years, the DDC had approved a campaign called ‘Money generated through electricity for electricity.’

From one per cent of tariff that comes from electricity generated at Devighat and Trishuli will be used in bringing electricity to rural parts of the district, said Nahari Adhikari, the LDO of Nuwakot.

The proposal to electrify rural areas was approved by the 12th district council meeting of the DDC held last week, he said.

During the past 40 years, only 27 per cent of the district has been electrified by Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Out of 61 VDCs, only seven, including Bidur municipality, have access to electricity, said the NEA’s Rasuwa-Nuwakot officials.

Out of the rest of 54 VDCs without electricity, 10 are untouched by electricity while eight have electricity lines.
