DHANGADHI: Local business entrepreneurs demonstrated in Kailali district headquarters demanding to end Kailali banda, saying they were tired of the week-long district closure. The entrepreneurs' rally went around various parts of the district headquarters and ended in front of Kailali customs office. The entrepreneurs disrupted the locals' movement to and from Indian market Gauriphanta through the customs office. Kailali bandh has affected normal life in Dhangadi, Attariya and other bazaar areas in western Nepal due to the eight-day bandh. Most locals of Kailali have been forced to rsort to buying daily goods from Gauriphanta. The Unified CPN (Maoist) has called the indefinite banda in Kailali district demanding declaring those killed in Dudejhari incident be declared martyrs, compensation be given their kin and the injured in the incident be provided medical treatment expenses. Five persons including a junior police officer were killed in violence after police used force to evict the Maoist-backed landless squatters who encroached on Dudejhari forest land on December 4. All-party meetings time and again to end the bandh ended without success.
