Terra Motors brings its new smart electric scooter to Nepal

Kathmandu: Fair Auto Pvt Ltd,  the authorised distributor of Terra Motors in Nepal is all set to roll out the company’s new smart electric scooter — Terra Acuto — at the price of Rs 2, 35, 000. Terra Motors, a Japanese automaker specialising in electric scooters that hopes to become the Tesla of two-wheelers, has been present in India since 2015. As a young startup in 2013, it claimed to have created the first ‘sophisticated’ electric scooter to enter mass production — the A4000i. The company officially launched its new model Acuto in Nepal during the NADA auto show 2017, but according to the distributor, the model will only be publicly available for purchase after Tihar.

The smart scooter is powered by a removable 60V 29A Lithium-ion battery manufactured by Japanese electronics giant Panasonic.  The model features 12-inch alloy wheels on both ends, and comes with front and rear disc brakes. It also boasts a keyless entry system. The instrumentation is all digital and the lighting system all-LED. According to the company, the battery takes 3.5 hours to fully charge. The scooter comes with a 2-year warranty covering the motor, charger, battery and controller.

The company claims the Acuto can not only match its petrol-fuelled counterparts of 125cc, but outperform them by registering an acceleration of 0 to 90 km/h within 8 seconds. “It can give up to 80 km mileage, and has been adapted to Nepal’s hilly road conditions,” said Shyam S Sapkota, Head — Technical & After Sales Service, Fair Auto Pvt Ltd.

The company plans to distribute 200 units of Acuto this year in Kathmandu. In order to encourage and support the users trying out Acuto’s “flying, not driving” experience, the company also plans to offer a lifetime of free service to customers so they can drop by the store and seek a technical diagnosis anytime.
