Kathmandu, August 18

Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) has received applications from 13 candidates for the post of general manager (GM), which has remained vacant since July 7 after the term of former GM Sitaram Thapaliya ended.

Including former GM Thapaliya, other 12 candidates who are actively engaged in financial sector have applied for the post of GM at the sole secondary market of the country.

Chandra Singh Saud, Pramod Raj Sharma, Bhola Pande, Prabin Pandak and Saroj Tandan have submitted their applications to the GM selection committee formed by Ministry of Finance (MoF). As per sources at MoF, Sushilkumar Aryal, Shree Prasad Paudel, Narendra Agrawal, Hemanta Basyal, Manoj Gnyawali and Niranjan Fuyal are other applicants.

According to Tularaj Bashyal, a member of the selection committee, the committee will short-list five candidates from among the applicants in the first phase based on the documents and business plan for four years submitted by them. Thereafter, the committee will recommend three candidates out of the short-listed five as the final competitors for the GM of Nepse.

As per the recommendation of the committee, Cabinet will appoint one of the three candidates as GM of Nepse for four years. MoF had formed a selection committee coordinated by its Joint Secretary Ananda Raj Dhakal and comprising two members — Bashyal and another Joint Secretary of MoF, Uttar Kumar Khatri.

However, as Dhakal has been transferred at Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development, Khatri has been given responsibility of coordinating the committee. The deadline for submitting applications expired on August 15 and as per sources, MoF will soon appoint a new member to the committee so that the selection process is not delayed.
