Authorities in Gandaki Province took legal action against 2,431 business firms during Fiscal Year 2082/83 for tampering with or using unauthorised weighing and measuring instruments.
The action was taken by the Quality and Standards Office, Pokhara, under the Measurement Act, 2025 and the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, according to office chief Manoj Pokharel.
Businesses across Kaski, Gorkha, Lamjung, Syangja, Tanahun, Manang, Mustang, Parbat, Myagdi and Baglung districts were found to have used weighing and measuring devices irregularly or without legal authorisation, he said.
During the same period, the office issued permits to 1,078 new businesses and renewed permits for 28 existing firms to use weighing and measuring instruments.
Pokharel said the office collected Rs 7.85 million in revenue under various headings during the fiscal year.
