Action taken against 18 erring firms
Kathmandu, January 3
The Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) has taken action against 18 companies producing substandard goods. It has stated that it has taken action against firms manufacturing goods without meeting the required quality and standard in the current fiscal year.
Companies facing action include Ghorahi Cement based in Dang; Narayani Micro-pipe Industry of Bara; Nawa Nepal Plastic Industry; Narayani Cement Industry of Bara, Mega Cement of Jhapa, Laxmi Steels and Kathmandu Steels that are based in Nawalparasi; and Ganapati Vanaspati of Bara.
Also facing action of the NBSM are Internationala Cement in Birgunj; Gorakhkali Cement Industries of Jhapa; Annapurna Cement and Golden Battery which are based in Morang; Sugam Manufacture of Kathmandu; MJP Cement and Ganapati Cement of Kapilvastu; Hongsi Cement Industry of Nawalparasi; Arghakhanchi Cement Industry that is based in Rupandehi; and Shubha Shree Jagadamba Cement Industry in Bara.
Director General of NBSM Bishwo Babu Pudasaini, said action has been taken against these companies which manufactured products without meeting the necessary standard and quality. The licence of most of the companies facing action has been suspended and the sale and distribution of their products stopped.
NBSM has written to the companies facing action to produce quality products, failing which their licences will be revoked.
NBSM has provided licence to 250 companies for the manufacture of 369 types of products of 60 categories of goods.
