‘Most media spending as per budget’
Kathmandu, May 16:
Senior government officials today clarified that the money released to some media organisations was as per annual budgetary plans.
The earlier government had released funds to different media houses amounting to Rs 23.67 million on different dates for various good purposes, claimed government officials today.
Clarifying the confusion over media organisations, Krishna Hari Baskota, spoke-sperson at the ministry of finance said that to some media, money was released in the current fiscal and some in the last fiscal. He said that the budget was released for a good purpose as per the proposals submitted by these media institutions.
As per the white paper presented by finance minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat in the parliament yesterday, a total of 32 media-related institutions had received money from the government on different dates including Gorkhapatra Sansthan, Nepal Samacharpatra, Rajdhani and Himalaya Times (Nepali) daily. The media institutions which received government’s money in the current fiscal year are Editors Guild Nepal, Media Group Nepal, Nepal Intellectual Contact and Opinion Forum, Federation of National Journalists, Nepal Press Club and many others.
