Dr Shankar Sharma, vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC), said that the government has given top priority to poverty alleviation and creation of job opportunities.

Inaugurating a workshop on ‘Value Added Employment Through Training and Technology’ enhancement organised here today by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI), International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Industrial Entrepreneurship Development Institute (IEDI) he stressed on the need of creating job opportunities in social and economic sector. “Various trainings are needed for various sectors,” he said, “Trainers should be given up-to-date training to make them capable to face challenge of the 21st century.” Speaking on the occasion, Leyla Tegmo Reddy, director of ILO based in Nepal, said things would be difficult as long as fast moving technological innovations are not adopted. She said that it is imperative for the state to increase access of all people to education. Chandiraj Dhakal, acting president of FNCCI, said that Nepali labourers should not be sent abroad without skill and training. “Skilled man-power should be sent to the labour markets.”
