‘Quarantine check a must’

Chitwan, August 27:

There is a possibility of Avian Influenza, due to lack of quarantine check at the Indo-Nepal border. Eggs and chickens are being imported into Nepal without any quarantine check from the neighbouring Indian markets, the poultry entrepreneurs complained here. They are worried that the poultry import without any quarantine check might bring with it diseases from India.

Guna Chandra Bista, central president of Nepal Hatchery Association, said, Indian chicken and eggs are being illegally imported through Bhairahawa and Birgunj customs. “Due to lack of quarantine check, the eggs of low quality are being imported,” he said, adding that the chicken are also of low quality and there is a possibility of Avian Influenza. “Avian Influenza has recently hit the Indian poultry market.”
