KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 27

The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) recorded 32,963 foreign tourist arrivals during the month of Ashoj (mid-September to mid-October), marking an increase of 2,416 visitors compared to the same period last year.

According to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), the arrivals included 12,645 tourists from South Asian countries and 20,318 from other nations. In Ashoj last year, the region received 30,547 foreign visitors.

Ashoj recorded the highest tourist arrivals so far in the current fiscal year. ACAP data show that 17,913 foreign tourists visited the region in Bhadra, while 26,591 arrived in Shrawan.

ACAP Chief Dr Rabin Kadariya said tourist numbers typically surge during Ashoj and Kartik, the peak trekking season in Nepal. He noted that the ongoing favorable weather and trekking conditions have made the Annapurna region a preferred destination for international visitors.

The Annapurna Circuit and surrounding trails offer access to popular destinations including Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi Himal, Ghandruk, Tilicho Lake, Thorong La Pass, Upper Mustang, and Ghorepani.

Covering more than 7,600 square kilometers, the Annapurna Conservation Area is renowned for its mountain scenery, biodiversity, cultural heritage, and diverse trekking routes. Improved tourism infrastructure and local hospitality continue to attract visitors from around the world.

Dr Kadariya added that the period between Dashain and Tihar remains particularly popular among trekkers seeking to experience the region's natural beauty and unique mountain culture.
