KATHMANDU, JULY 14

Nepal's average inflation stood at 2.89 percent during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, while year-on-year consumer inflation rose to 5.22 percent in mid-June, according to the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

The central bank's Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation Report, based on data up to mid-June, shows annual inflation increased from 2.72 percent in the same period last fiscal year.

Food and beverage inflation stood at 4.95 percent, while the non-food and services category recorded a higher inflation rate of 5.37 percent.

Among food items, fruit prices rose by 17.40 percent, followed by ghee and edible oils (15.10 percent), fish and meat (5.26 percent), and vegetables (4.14 percent). Prices of pulses and legumes, however, declined by 0.93 percent.

In the non-food category, prices of miscellaneous goods and services increased by 16.68 percent, transport by 15.31 percent, alcoholic beverages by 7.20 percent, education by 5.54 percent, and clothing and footwear by 5.53 percent.

Regionally, annual inflation was 4.78 percent in rural areas and 5.38 percent in urban areas. Among provinces, Koshi recorded the highest inflation at 5.75 percent, followed by Madhesh and Lumbini at 5.62 percent each. Sudurpashchim recorded the lowest at 4.61 percent.
