Birat Petroleum’s tanker seized

KATHMANDU: The police impounded a tanker of Birat Petroleum from Kalikasthan of Kathmandu on Tuesday evening while it was found to be selling petrol directly in drums and gallons. Senior Superintendent of Police at Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu, Bikram Singh Thapa, informed that the tanker was sent to the office of the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology for necessary quality tests. SSP Thapa further said that police seized the tanker only for the quality test, not on charge of black-marketing. “Birat had received the Cabinet’s approval to import fuel and it is the responsibility of the Department of Commerce and Supply Management (DoCSM) to determine the price,” said SSP Thapa, “We can deem the company is engaging in black-marketing only if they breach the decision of DoCSM.”
