SCT’s free scheme

KATHMANDU:

Smart Choice Technology (SCT) has launched a new scheme SCT-Debit Card Free. Thosewith accounts at the SCT member banks are eligible for the scheme. Under the scheme one has to fill up a form which is available at the member banks as well as department stores and get a SCT debit card free. It is valid till September 30. — HNS

Contraband seized

BUTWAL:

The armed police revenue patrol team has seized a big haul of sugar and fertiliser in a godown at Suryapur Bazaar in Rupandehi. The force seized 36 quintals of sugar, 28 sacks of urea and 13 sacks of potash fertiliser from the godown. The seized goods were later sent to the customs office in Bhairahawa. — RSS

Malaysian Airline loss

KUALA LUMPUR:

Malaysian Airline System Bhd said on Monday it posted a first-quarter financial loss of $73.9 million in the three months ending on June 30 because of soaring fuel costs. It was the first time the company reported a quarterly loss since April-June 2003. — AP

Opel eyes outsourcing

FRANKFURT:

GM Corp’s European division said that its plans to outsource some jobs at its Opel unit were in line with a labour agreement it reached in March. The company defended its plans after Klaus Franz, a labour representative for workers at GM’s Opel brand, said that it was looking to transfer 350 workers. — AP
