Nabil’s new branches
KATHMANDU: Nabil Bank opened three new branches at Balaju, Chabahil and Maitidevi on Thursday. Former governor and Chairman of Nabil Satendra Pyara Shrestha inaugurated the branches. Now, the number number of Nabil’s branch offices has reached 35. The bank has 13 branches in Kathmandu.

BIRATNAGAR: The Standards and Metrology regional Office, Biratnagar, has fined and started action against 131 traders at different places in the district for selling goods at exorbitant prices and doctoring the weights and measures. The office fined them Rs 5,544 each and started action against them. It checked traders’ weights and measures and also electronic equipment in Belbari and Pathari.
Lower revenue
KAKARVITTA: The Mechi customs office has not been able to collect the targeted revenue. Against a target of Rs 756,842,000 in the first four months of the current fiscal year, the office collected Rs 746,611,000, said revenue officer Umesh Kumar Basnet. Collection was 1.35 per cent less than target, he said, adding that the collection went down due to decrease in excise duty collection.
‘Fishy’ prospects
KAILALI: Though there is immense potential for fish farming in Kailali, the district imports fish from India worth millions of rupees yearly. District agriculture office staffer Jit Bahadur Thapa said if the 200 ponds and lakes in Kailali were utilised, it would no longer depend on imported fish. He said 125 metric tonnes of fish can be produced in natural ponds and 1,264 metric tonnes in artificial ones. The district can produce 10,000 metric tonnes of fish, he said.
Sugar impounded
GAUSHALA: Police in Mahottari district impounded two quintals sugar being smuggled in from India. A team of Armed Police Force (APF) Ramnagar base camp confiscated the sugar hidden inside a bus going towards Janakpur from Samsi. The confiscated sugar is worth Rs 20,000 in the local market.
