Cattle perish

GAUSHALA: Increasing cold is taking a toll of cattle and fowls in Mahottari district. Six buffaloes, a dozen goats, five dozen ducks and fowls have died due to the cold spell that has been sweeping the district since the last one-and-a-half week. According to reports, three buffaloes froze to death at Bathanaha VDC, two in Pokharminda and one at Nigaula and a dozen goats perished due to extreme cold in 13 different wards in Jaleshwar, the district headquarters. Five dozen ducks and fowls died at different poultry farms in Mahottari.

Local initiative

DHADINGBESI: Increasing load-shedding is worsening problems for people living in the urban area, but villagers here are working to produce power using local resources. Residents have begun work to produce power worth 17 kw from the Manpang river in Mulpani VDC-7 of the district. The micro hydro power project will provide power to wards 7 and 8 and will cost Rs 4.9 million. The fund is being collected through the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre, District Development Committee, Dhading, Mulpani VDC and local people’s voluntary labour, chairperson of the Power Development Committee, Ramhari Adhikari said.
