UFL bonanza
KATHMANDU: United Finance Ltd (UFL) — promoted by Chaudhary group and Morang Auto Works — approved 10 per cent bonus shares and 1:1 rights shares during its 14th annual general meeting on Friday. The finance company that has opened its first branch in Biratnagar, has plans to open three more branch offices within this fiscal. The company has Rs 150 million paid up capital and it posted Rs 25.8 million net profit in the fiscal year 2007-08. — HNS
Bajaj winners
KATHMANDU: Surya Prasad Sharma of Dang and Dewaki Rai of Itahari won Daihatsu Sirion Car under Bajaj Bhagya Bidhata scheme. Shekhar Golchha, managing director of HH Bajaj handed over the prizes to the winners. According to a press statement, Bajaj has brought the offer for Dashain and Tihar. Golchha also handed over Samsung Home Maker packs to 12 lucky Bajaj customers also. — HNS
Factory opens
UDAYAPUR: Udaypur Cement Factory workers have agreed to the reopening of the plant. They had padlocked the offices of the general manager and in the administrative building demanding fulfillment of their 22-point charter of demands. The standoff ended after workers were invited for talks at the factory’s contact office in Kathmandu. — RSS
Project shut
MANGALBARE: The biggest hydropower project of the country’s eastern region in Mabu has shut down due to disputes among consumers. Villagers are compelled to live in darkness since the last one month. At least 400 users of Mabu and Maimajhuwa are facing this situation due to problems in the project’s technical equipment and canal from time to time. — RSS

BABIYACHAUR: The district agriculture development office in association with Hill Resource Development Centre has launched Farmers-to-Farmers programme in 14 of the 19 VDCs of Myagdi to draw them towwards organic farming and shun using chemicals. — RSS
Poultry culled
SARLAHI: Police seized and destroyed 165 broiler chickens that were smuggled in from India. Police also impounded the tractor used to bring the chickens. A police team from the Armed Police Force’s Border Security Office at Malangawa seized the consignment from Sangrampur. Nepal has stopped the import of poultry from India after outbreak of bird flu in Assam and West Bengal states there. — RSS
Food supplies
LAHAN: The zonal office of Nepal Food Corporation in Lahan has supplied 4,980 quintals of food grains to eastern hilly districts like Khotang, Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu so far this year. The office said the government has allocated 8,230 quintals of rice for the district for this year. The office delivers the food via contractors. It said additional food grains would be made available for the districts if needed. — RSS
