NPC team leaves

KATHMANDU: Dr Jagadish Chandra Pokhrel, vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) left for Bangkok on Sunday to participate in the minister level meeting of the 64th convention of the United Nations Economic and Social Council for Asia and pacific region that is being held in Bangkok on April 24 - 30. He is scheduled to address on April 29. Asian and Pacific Nations will discuss on poverty alleviation, various issues of globalisation management, recent social issues and special needs of least developed and landlocked countries. — RSS

221m Chinese use net

BEIJING: China has overtaken the US and now has some 221 million web users — the world’s largest Internet using population. The number was 210 million by the end of last year, trailing the US by some five million. Despite a rapidly increasing Internet population, China’s ratio of Internet users to the total population is still lower than the global average.

16 per cent of the Chinese population used the Internet at the end of 2007, compared to 19.1 per cent of the world average. — Xinhua
