NCC discusses trade

KATHMANDU: Surendra Bir Malakar, president of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and Graeme Lade, Australian envoy to Nepal discussed on various trade and economic issues between the two countries here on Friday. “The stronger relations between the chambers of two country will boost more trade, tourism and investment opportunities,” said Malakar, during the meeting. They also discussed on promoting agriculture and hydropower. — HNS

UICL turns 15 year

KATHMANDU: United Insurance Company (Nepal) Ltd (UICL) has completed its 14 years of operation on Sunday and entered into 15th year. It has sold premium worth Rs 150.2 million during the fiscal year 2006-07, which was 13 per cent increase against last year’s premium, states a press release. The company has registered 18 per cent growth to Rs 66.7 million in terms of premium sales during the first quarter of this fiscal year. — HNS

RK Jewellers gets ISO

KATHMANDU: RK Jewellers has been awarded with an ISO 9001:2000 certification by a UK based certification agency United Registrar Systems. The certification was conferred to RK Jewellers for its quality management in production and sales of various jewelleries of gold, diamond and silver for last 19 years, states a press release. — HNS

Makalu lures tourists

KHADBARI: Number of tourists visiting Makalu Barun National Park region has increased remarkably within the period of last seven years. The end of conflict has contributed to increase in number of tourists. According to Durgakiran Rai, chairman of management committee of Makalu Barun National Park and Middle Community Forest, number of tourists visiting Makalu, Merapeak, Ama Dablam, Chamlang, Baruntse is likely to increase more. He also pointed out the need to increase infrastructures as well as facilities for the tourists. — RSS

Mahat Japan-bound

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, heading the Nepali team, has left for Japan today to attend the Asia Pacific Water convention to be held in Beppu of Japan. Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Mahantha Thakur will look after affairs of finance ministry in his absence, according to office of the Prime Minister. — RSS
