Tea price plummet

ILAM: Tea farmers have been worried as the factories are paying them low price for green leaves. The tealeaves, which used to fetch Rs 40 per kg six years ago, have gone down to Rs 10-17 this year. Such a radical decline of tea price has posed difficulty to farmers even to meet their investment, said Dhan Bahadur Yangwali, a tea farmer. However, the factories have been saying that they are bound to lower the price because of decline in price of orthodox tea in the international markets. —RSS
