BIRGUNJ: Experts have stressed on the need to effectively implement a long-term strategy for the development and extension of sugarcane farming. They demanded a National Sugarcane and Sugar Development Board for the development and promotion of the crop at a meeting on ‘coordination of the concerned bodies for sugarcane research and development’ organised here on Thursday by the Sugarcane Research Programme, Jitpur Bara. Budget made public :

BIRATNAGAR: The 13th town council of the Biratnagar sub-metropolis has made public a budget of Rs 243.2 million for the fiscal year 2063-64 BS. The budget has Rs 49.8 million in general expenditure and Rs 33 million in social development and Rs 160.3 million in physical infrastructure building. — RSS

GM products banned :

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday asked the Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) not to give approvals to genetically modified products until further orders. A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justices C K Thakker and R V Raveendran gave the direction on an application filed by Aruna Rodrigues and three others in a public interest litigation seeking a ban on the release of genetically modified organisms/seeds having the potential of causing major health hazards.—HNS
