London, May 18:

Britain will hold a donors conference in June to help raise funds for the reconstruction effort in Afghanistan, Xinhua reports.

“The donors conference will be held here on June 21-23. I will be hosting the G-8 foreign ministers meeting, again here in London, and I look forward to seeing Dr Abdullah Abdullah at both of those meetings,” British foreign secretary Jack Straw said at a news conference with Afghan foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah.

“The United Kingdom is committed to helping Afghanistan and its people in the long term. We are the third largest bilateral donor to Afghanistan and the largest to the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund,” Straw said.

In the last three years, billions of dollars of aid have been raised for the reconstruction and rehabilitation effort in Afghanistan.
