BUDGET 2006-07: Highlights

Each VDCs to get additional Rs 200,000 for health and education related programmes

• The constituency area development programme has been revived

• Special arrangement to be made for the provision of citizenship certificate to the people of Terai

• Allowance for elderly, helpless and widows has been raised by Rs 25 a month

• Rs 1.25 billion allocated for Poverty Alleviation Fund for income generation, community infrastructure development and creative programmes

• Rs 350 monthly scholarship will be provided for 50 girls and all Dalit students at primary levels

• Rs 1.76 billion for rural electrification programmes

• More than 200,000 households to benefit from rural electrification

• Women can go for foreign employment

• District Transportation Master Plan Roads Construction Fund will be created

• Special Karnali Area Development Programme targeting five districts of Karnali zone

• 190 new schools and 4,200 classrooms to be built

• Kidney treatment unit will be set up at four hospitals

• Free Tiffin for 24,000 students of Karnali zone

• One family-one-job scheme for Karnali and one member of unemployed family will get Rs 50 per day allowance for 100 days in a year

• 3,000 additional women teachers to be recruited

• Anti Money Laundering, Bank Fraud Control and Negotiable Instrument Laws to be enacted

• Martyr’s children to get free education up to graduate level and Rs 3,000 monthly allowance for the families

• Rs 5000 grant for conflict victims

• A special programme for assimilation of Maoists cadre into mainstream

• Rs 1.1 billion allotted for reconstruction and rehabilitation activities

• Rs 1,500 annual clothing allowance for lower level employees

• Nepal Development Forum meeting planned before mid-October 2006
