KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 22
The production of cardamom has increased in Ilam district, according to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre in Ilam.
Despite a decrease in cultivated land for cardamom, the Centre Chief, Tony Bardewa, shared that cardamom production has risen by 7.96 percent in the current fiscal year compared to the previous fiscal year.
In the current fiscal year, cardamom was planted on 1,753 hectares of land, resulting in a production of 1,320 metric tonnes. In the previous fiscal year, it was cultivated on 1,755 hectares of land, producing 1,215.26 metric tonnes.
The productivity per hectare increased from 0.69 percent in the previous fiscal year to 0.75 percent in the current fiscal year, Bardewa added.
Additionally, dragon fruit farming has expanded in Ilam this year. The Centre reported that it has been cultivated on 10 hectares of land in the current fiscal year, compared to 0.5 hectares in the previous year.
