Carrot farming gets popular

Bijaynagar, April 9:

Shree Dhurga Village of the Talirum Village development committee (VDC) of Jumla district in remote Karnali zone has been declared as ‘carrot village’.

Commercial farming of carrot is catching on with the local farmers. However, the carrot farming had not lured them initially. They are earning Rs 30,000 annually from carrot farming, according to Rana Prasad Regmi. Farmers sell carrots in the commercial centres of Jumla, which are then supplied to the bigger markets like Nepalgunj and Surkhet.

As the carrots produced here are of the best quality, the seeds of these carrots are much in demand in Bangladesh, acting director of Central Regional Agriculture Directorate, Dumbar Singh Nepali said.

As the village has been producing carrots that are of best quality in the country, it has been declared a ‘carrot village’, according to the farmers.
