Central Open tees off today

The Surya Nepal Golf Tour is beginning here at the Gokarna Golf Club with the Surya Nepal Central Open on Monday.

The organisers of the Tour, Nepal PGA informed a total of nine events will be held in the 2018-19 season with the total cash purse of Rs 5.5 million. Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship is the biggest event of the season with the cash purse of Rs 1.26 million, while three events -- Surya Nepal Central Open, Eastern Open and Western Open -- carry the prize money of Rs 661,500 each.

Like previous seasons, one each tournament will be played in Dharan and Pokhara, while other seven will be divided at Royal Nepal Golf Club and Gokarna Golf Club.

The season opener, Surya Nepal Central Open will see a total of 30 pros and 11 amateur players vying for the trophy. Cut will be applied after second round with top 21 pros and six amateurs making it to the final two rounds.

The winner of the 72-hole event will be richer by Rs 120,000, while runner-up will get Rs 77,000 and second runner-up bag Rs 55,000. Others in the top 21 will also get their share of cash prizes.
