Chief ministers vow development and economic prosperity

Kathmandu, March 14

The newly elected chief ministers of all provinces today committed to work for development and economic prosperity of the country.

Addressing a gathering organised by Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) in the Capital today, executive heads of all the provinces said that the government’s major agenda at present is development and pledged to prioritise development works in their respective states.

“Endorsement of the Constitution, successful conclusion of elections and formation of the new government has already led the country towards the path of prosperity. Now, our sole focus will be on enhancing development activities,” said Sherdhan Rai, chief minister (CM) of Province 1.

Similarly, CM of Province 2, Mohammad Lal Babu Raut said that private sector investments are crucial to lead the provinces and the entire country towards economic growth and prosperity. “The government will work together with the private sector to accelerate development works in the country,” said Raut.

Province 3 Chief Minister Dor Mani Paudel said that the time has come for every stakeholder to realise all the development commitments made earlier. “This is an opportunity for our government to take the development processes to a newer height,” he said.

Vowing to work closely with all sections of the society for nation building, Prithvi Subba Gurung, CM of Province 4 said that human resources crunch in the provincial governments has been a major setback impeding regular works and urged efforts from the central level to address the problem.

Chief Minister of Province 5, Shankar Pokhrel informed that Nepal switched to the federal system of governance with the sole objective of nation development and economic prosperity. “Thus, economic prosperity is the major agenda of the current government.”

Addressing the gathering, Province 6 CM Mahendra Bahadur Shahi said that his province is comparatively lagging in terms of development and that the state government will highly prioritise the development of the Karnali region. Shahi also urged investors to invest in various sectors in Karnali region citing that Province 6 offers ample opportunities for investment.

Trilochan Bhatta, CM of Province 7 expressed his commitment to address the private sector’s concerns and work together for development.

Urging provincial governments to develop infrastructure and promote businesses in every province, NCC President Rajesh Kazi Shrestha said, “Private sector will invest where they see sound infrastructure and other facilities.”

Informing that NCC has amended its statute in accordance with the new federal system, Shrestha said that NCC would host economic and development discussions at all local levels soon.
