Closure of tea estate hits workers hard
ILAM: Over 600 tea workers have been thrown out of job as Kanyam Tea Estate, one of the biggest state-run tea estates, has remained closed for the past two weeks. The management closed the tea estate and the factory since September 26 alleging that tea workers were creating chaotic environment by pushing forth their unnecessary demands. Following the closure of the tea estate, 282 permanent staff and about 600 seasonal tea workers have remained jobless.
