KATHMANDU, JULY 3
The newly-elected members of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) met Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat to discuss the country's economy.
Led by the newly-elected President of CNI, Rajesh Kumar Agrawal, the members held a meeting at the Ministry of Finance today.
During the meeting, Agrawal emphasised the importance of effective budget implementation and a loose monetary policy to make the economy viable.
He also stressed the need to boost the morale of the private sector and achieve a six per cent economic growth rate
Agrawal urged the government to take strict measures to control illegal imports and promote domestic production.
He requested introduction of Payment Recovery Act to facilitate loan collection by industrialists. Additionally, Agrawal highlighted the need for the Anticipatory Bail Law, suggesting that there should be only monetary fines for financial crimes.
Agrawal brought up an issue regarding the implementation of the levelling of imported goods announced in the budget. He pointed out that the customs department had published a notice stating that this measure would be implemented from July 15. However, the information was not clear, and he suggested that unlabelled goods should be stopped at the customs point to prevent the sale of improperly labelled imported goods.
In response, Finance Minister Mahat assured the confederation that their concerns were taken seriously, and he wished the new working committee of the CNI a successful tenure.
