Coffee yield doubles in Parbat district
PARBAT: Coffee yield doubled in Parbat this year against last year, according to District Coffee Entrepreneurs’ Association (DCEA).
The association said 40 tonnes of cherry coffee yielded 8.5 tonnes of dry parchment coffee. Seven tonnes have been exported to America and Japan, and some European countries by Plan Take Coffee Promotion Company and Royal Everest Coffee Mill.
One-and-a-half tonnes of the produce is consumed in the local market and by the farmers themselves. This year, coffee farmers earned around Rs 1.25 million rupees. They got Rs 28 rupees/kg for fresh cherry coffee and Rs 148/kg for dry parchment coffee. The price is more than that fixed by Tea and Coffee Development Board, said DCEA president Bhavani Sharma.
