Consumers’ protection stressed

Birgunj, August 21 :

Experts have stressed on qualitative and comparative profit, honest and responsible business and conscious and active consumers to protect consumers’ right.

At the programme organised by Consumer Forum, Parsa on ‘Protection of Consumers’ right’, speakers pointed out the need for effective monitoring of market to check growing problems of adulteration.

The adulteration problem has widely been found in items of daily consumptions like ghee, milk and non-edible colours in different types of foodstuffs as found by market monitoring team by the commerce office, Birgunj.

At the programme, chief of the commerce office, Tamalal Pandey said that the government alone cannot protect consumers’ right unless the private sector, entrepreneurs, businessmen and civil society extend their cooperation in this matter.

Calling on businessmen to maintain honesty towards consumers, chief of the Birgunj sub-metropolitan city expressed his confidence that the sub-metropolitan city would provide active co-operation in the consumer welfare campaign.

Advocates Deepak Raj Bhandari and Vijaya Upadhya said there should be coordination between all sectors to provide standard and subsidised services as per the Consumer-Act.

Central member of the Human Rights Association Binod Nepal, media persons, Satrughan Nepal, Sital Prasad Mahato, Gopal Devkota and Yubraj Khadka pointed out the need to carry out a consumer movement in an integrated and effective manner.The programme was presided over by the chairman of the forum, Sunil Chandra Verma.
