CMC owes Rs 1.5bn to local contractors
KATHMANDU: Nepali contractors hired by Italian contractor Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti (CMC) for the Melamchi Water Supply Project have claimed that CMC still owes them around Rs 1.5 billion. Issuing a joint press statement on Thursday, 28 Nepali sub-contractors urged the government to ensure that the payments were released as soon as possible. Moreover, they have threatened to launch protest against the government if their payments are delayed.
“We have repeatedly asked the government to ensure that sub-contractors get their payments on time. However, the government does not seem to be bothered about payments to sub-contractors,” reads the press statement, adding that the government should guarantee the payments to sub-contractors before taking any decision on the project. Sub-contractors said they would start protest programmes if the government failed to assure them the payments by Saturday.
