Cooperatives could operate petrol pumps

Kathmandu, June 25:

The organised and cooperatives institutions would get a quick approval from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, if they are willing to operate food depots, petrol pump and gas plants.

It is a better alternative to private sector-run petrol pumps that are involved in adulterationof petroleum products and create obstruction in supply process.

Purusottam Ojha, secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, said the government decided to permit the cooperatives to operate food depots, petrol pump and gas plants to discourage black marketing .

"This could a be reply to the black marketeers," he added. The role of Sajha, Army and Police-run petrol pumps has been significant in neutralising the shortage.
