LAMJUNG: The District Agriculture Development Office (DADO), Lamjung has distributed 14 tonnes of maize seeds at a discounted rate of 50 per cent.
According to Senior Agriculture Development Officer and Office Head Krishna Bhadra Adhikari, the farmers of the district have been distributed three — Rampur Composite, Arun-2 and Manakamana-3 — varieties of seeds.
The remaining seeds from grant scheme of last fiscal year were distributed this year. Moreover, in the previous fiscal, DADO had doled out 28 tonnes of seeds at 75 per cent subsidy.
"The seeds were distributed at a subsidised rate of 50 per cent this fiscal as per the government's instructions," Adhikari said. "The distribution phase has neared its end."
According to DADO statistics, out of eight local levels in the districts, three did not put forth any demand for the seeds. Kaholasothar, Marsyangdhi and Dordi Rural Municipalities did not demand subsidised maize seeds after distributing it through local level budget on their own.
Over the years, Lamjung has become self-sufficient in terms of maize production and seed consumption.
