KATHMANDU: Yukti Marik Dom, an inhabitant of Govindapur of Saptari district, won the fourth Alba Ratna award amid a function in Biratnagar today.

Morang Auto Works, sole distributor of Yamaha Motorcycle for Nepal, has established the award of Rs 50,000 for outstanding contribution to society. Dom, who is from a downtrodden caste, worked hard for 15 years to uplifft downtrodden castes and contributed to society towards good culture with his continuous hard work and courage. Children from this group started going to school. Child marriage was reduced due to his tireless efforts. Downtrodden people have started going to temples, which was earlier strictly prohibited them.

Alba Ratna is a campaign through which a local hero/heroine from society is chosen and felicitated with the prize money for his/her selfless contributions to society.
