Donors provide technical assistance worth $926.71m

Government agencies and non-government organisations that are implementing government plans and programmes received technical assistance worth $926.71 million from multinational agencies, bilateral donors and international non-governmental organisations in the last fiscal year.

Altogether, 28 ministries, National Reconstruction Authority and constitutional bodies received technical assistance for 281 projects, which were implemented in the country last year, from the donors.

Some ministries that were responsible for implementing programmes that directly related to the public received higher amount of technical assistance in the last fiscal.

As per data maintained by the International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division of the Ministry of Finance, $709.39 million or 76.55 per cent of total technical assistance was received by five ministries.

According to the data, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development received the highest technical assistance from the donor agencies.

The ministry had implemented 16 programmes in the last fiscal for which it utilised $225.88 million of technical assistance.

In terms of number of programmes implemented by the agencies, Ministry of Health received technical assistance of $186.64 million to implement 23 programmes in the last fiscal year.

Similarly, the Finance Ministry received $184.04 million, the Ministry of Education received $75 million and the Ministry of Population and Environment received $37.83 million to implement their programmes.

The National Reconstruction Authority received $9.88 million, National Human Rights Commission received $29.72 million, National Women Commission received $13 million, Water and Energy Commission received $4.12 million, Supreme Court received $5.27 million and Election Commission received total technical assistance of $24.63 million in the last fiscal year.

The programmes for which the government received technical assistance ranged from ‘Peace, human rights and good governance programme’, ‘Skills for employment and productivity in low-income countries’, ‘Labour market information and employment services project’ and ‘Advancing decent work through services to constituents’.

Similarly, the government received technical assistance for ‘Facilitating formalisation of informal economy project’, ‘Strengthening sub-national public management’, ‘Support for project implementation of the earthquake emergency assistance project’ and ‘Accelerating investment and infrastructure in Nepal’ programmes.

The government receives technical assistance in different forms like project management teams, consultants or technical assistants.
