Education, career expo ends with gusto
Kathmandu, May 27:
The last day of Ambition 2007, despite Valley bandha today, saw more participants than it was expected, and gave a good conciliatory finish to the mega education and career expo. Though the show closed at around 3 pm, students were still pouring in in groups till evening.
Ambition 2007, the biggest education and career expo, in its eventful five days saw expectations of exhibitors being surpassed and +2 exam-appeared students getting the best bite. The education gala witnessed a shift in students’ choice from the traditional subjects to some others like Chartered Accountancy, fas-hion designing, GCE ‘A’ level, mass communication and journalism, among others.
Scholarships of up to 100 per cent also pulled hordes of students to study at home and abroad. Clearly, the subjects ruling the roost even till few years back seemed to be giving way to a good extent. It would in no way be farfetched to say that now almost all the students seem to be keeping an open mind while choosing their career.
The event also saw students asking for more institutions offering the diverse courses. Some felt there was a little too much of the raffle system. Chhewang Sherpa, a student from Boudha, said, “Had there been a number of volunteers to give a proper guidance vis-à-vis the stalls, it would have been very helpful.” Overall, all the students surveyed said they liked the expo for roping in such a number of institutions offering diverse courses under one roof.
The first four days of the Ambition saw very good turnout. Most seminars, too, were well-attended, and the exhibitors seemed well infused with much gusto to explain students what they were offering.
Ravi Thapaliya, director of international information at Cosmic Education Nepal, the main sponsor for the event, said, “These type of expos can act as a platform for genuine information on education and career. We are very much satisfied with the responses we have received.”
Echoing him, Prakash Kumar, director (academic) at Lord Buddha Education Foundation (LBEF) said that the expo provided a platform to interact with the prospective students and parents. “The event should be developed into an annual gala for exposition of educational affairs and career counselling,” he suggested.
Presented by Annapurna Post daily, the second edition of the Ambition 2007 drew some 76,141 visitors in five days, according to the organiser. The much exciting round trip ticket to China sponsored by Fox Tours & Travels in association with China Southern Airlines has been won by a visitor with the ticket No 32787, while the ticket No 26880 has won yet another exciting prize of 21” Flatron colour TV set. The four pen drive winning tickets are 30923, 44043, 50515 and 46082.
