Ilam, January 27
Though the district boasts of an electricity production centre, around 75 per cent families
in Ilam have no access to electrical facilities.
According to a study done by an NGO called Namsaling Community Development Centre, only 15 per cent residents of the area access to micro energy and peltrick set-generated electricity.
The central electricity distribution line in Ilam was distributed seven years ago.
Also, the 6.2-MW Puwa River electricity centre started five years ago. But only a handful of village development committees in the district are enjoying this facility.
In places, where there is lesser chance of taking electricity, peltrick-set generated electricity
is helping 1,324 families and 710 families are being served by micro energy.
Purna Tuladhar, chief of Nepal Electricity Board, Ilam, said that though there is a high demand for electricity, lack of a proper plan has not made provisioning of electricity possible. He added that the office does not have a budget for the distribution plan currently.
The biggest micro -electricity project in the eastern zone, the Triveni Micro Electricity Project, is currently helping 450 households.
