Eves outdo men in bid for EPS South Korea
KATHMANDU: Nepali women are showing keen interest oncern in South Korea jobs under the Employment Permit System (EPS) this year. The high re-registration in EPS roster of women is showing they are more interested than men.
More women are coming for re-registration than men, said an officer at EPS Nepal Office. According to data available on Wednesday, of the 40 total re-registrations 32 are women. “It shows women are more interested in jobs,” he said on condition of anonymity.
EPS Nepal has called EPS roster people of 2008 to re-register in the beginning of January. Around 3,864 — 58.66 per cent of total applicants 6,586 listed in EPS roster— got South Korean jobs in the last two years. EPS aspirants earn around $1,000 each per month and are contributing Rs 2 billion in remittance.
EPS Nepal office has started re-registration of EPS aspirants for the year 2010-11. Those applicants who failed to get job chance in 2008 should submit new medical report along with police report and registration form. The office has fixed Rs 2,100 fee for the process which is significantly less than 2008’s fee of Rs 3,200.
Nepal and South Korea signed a bilateral agreement on EPS on July 23, 2007 and the EPS
process started by the middle
of the following year. The
Ministry of Labour and Transport Management (MolTM) is going to renew the agreement on January 18 this year.
EPS hires foreign labour aged between 18 to 39 years through a rigorous selection process of Korean Language Test (KLT) followed by listing in roster, labour contract and issuance of Certificate of Confirmation of Visa Issuance (CCVI). Nepal got the Best Sending award from the Human Resources Department of South Korea under the 2008 quota.
