Favourable monsoon to boost agro output this year
Kathmandu, September 7
Owing to favourable monsoon, the government is expecting a rise in agricultural output this year.
Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) said continuous rainfall this year will increase production of paddy and millet.
“The country has received monsoon rains for a comparatively longer period this year and it will certainly benefit the agriculture sector. It will basically raise production of paddy and millet,” said Tej Bahadur Subedi, spokesperson for MoALD.
The government has set a target to produce a record-high 5.4 million metric tonnes of paddy this year. “Along with favourable monsoon, paddy plantation has been carried out across all arable land. This will help us realise the production target of paddy,” added Subedi.
Similarly, the ongoing monsoon will also help boost production of millet, as per him. The country had produced almost 300,000 tonnes of millet last year.
Meanwhile, the favourable monsoon is also expected to boost production of mustard, whose plantation will begin from November-end.
“In a nutshell, overall agricultural output is bound to increase this year,” said Subedi.
