FNCCI plans mediation centre soon

Kathmandu, June 22 :

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) as per the agreement reached with ARD Inc Rule of Law of USAID recently is to operate the Commercial Mediation Centre in an attempt to resolve commercial disputes in an effective way.

At a programme organised by FNCCI today, entrepreneurs have expr-essed hopes that the establishment of the commercial mediation centre would help entrepreneurs to resolve disputes quickly and easily as busines-smen do not have to reach courts to resolve cases.

Top Bahadur Singh, executive director of National Judicial Academy (NJA), speaking at the function observed that if commercial issues are resolved before they reach courts, it would greatly help the business sector. It will also help courts to cut down on their volume of cases, he opined. Even if small cases are registered at courts, they create mental pressure for industrialists, he opined.

Chairman of the Legal Committee of FNCCI, Ashok Kumar Todi informed that FNCCI has already been involved at the district and municipal chambers’ level informally for resolving commercial disputes. “Mediation provides opportunities of ‘enhanced business’ during negotiations as an offer from the complaining party to arrive at solutions.”
