Gold on record-setting spree
Kathmandu, February 20:
This week, gold traded in the domestic market at the highest price ever at Rs 29,603 per tola (11.664 gram). With this, the precious the yellow metal broke its own price record four times this week. Though it closed at Rs 27,801 per tola (11.664 gram), it opened with a record-breaking price of Rs 27,900 per tola breaking all its previous records. Gold on Monday traded for Rs 27,853 per tola, a price drop of Rs 47 compared to the opening price but it broke another record with the price going to Rs 28,400 per tola on Tuesday. That was followed by another record, with the price reaching Rs 29,160 on Wednesday. Further increase in gold price was observed, with the closing price Rs 29,603 being the highest till today.
Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association (NEGOSIDA) presidentn Tej Ratna Shakya said
the weakening of dollar value in the international market has caused rise in the price of gold. In the international market today, gold was at $978 per ounce. Last Friday, it was at $ 942 per ounce last Friday.
Silver too is going up steadily. This week, it opened at Rs 343 per 10 gram and was traded for the same price on Monday. It rose by one rupee on Tuesday with silver going to Rs 344 per 10 gram. Silver gained Rs 10 to reach Rs 355 on Wednesday, followed by yet another increase of Rs 7 on Thursday to reach Rs 362. Silver had last broken its price record with Rs 480 per tola during the month of Shrawan this year. This week, it closed at Rs 360 per 10 gram, said NEGOSIDA.
