Gold transaction sees upswing, at last

Kathmandu, January 23:

Gold in the domestic market this week opened at Rs 21,520 per 10 gram. Last week, it had closed at Rs 21,100 per 10 gram. This week, the opening price saw an increase of Rs 420 over last week’s closing price.

According to Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association (NEGOSIDA), there was a fall of Rs 85 on Monday with gold priced at Rs 21,435 on Monday and a fall of Rs 85 again on Tuesday with gold amounting to a low price of Rs 21,350. A sharp increase of Rs 450 in the price was observed in the domestic market on Wednesday, taking gold to Rs 21,800. The price stayed the same on Thursday, and further increased to Rs 21,820 on Friday. Gold closed at Rs 300 more than its opening price this week.

The price of gold in the international market this week was $856 per ounce.

It was $819 per ounce last week, said NEGOSIDA.

Due to frequent fluctuation in the gold price in the international market, it is directly affecting domestic price of gold, it added.

Silver this week opened at Rs 300 per 10 gram and remained constant till Tuesday. It saw an increase of Rs 2 on Wednesday, going up to Rs 302. It further gained Rs 2.50 and amounted to Rs 304.50 on Thursday and closed at the same price on Friday.
