Gorkha festival concludes

Gorkha, January 15:

The fifth Gorkha festival, organised on the occasion of 284th anniversary of late King Prithvi Narayan Shah, concluded here today.

The four-day long festival, which had more than 100 stalls on display, was a great success in promoting and preserving local economic, social, religious and historical products and sites of the district, the organisers claimed.

“This historical as well as religious district of Gorkha has been hit for the past few year hard due to ongoing conflict in the country,” the organisers said.

“More than 50,000 people from different areas visited the festival, where goods worth more than Rs 6 million had been traded,” said Gorkha Chamber of Commerce, the organiser.

The stadium, where the festival was organised, was packed for all the four days. The organisers were busy managing the lodging for the guests in different schools and organisation in the bazaar area.

The people throng the stalls of agricultural, herbs and woodcrafts.

“The demand of the herbs was less than our expectation but the demand of orange was high,” said Basant Raj Shrestha, chairman of Gorkha Chamber of Commerce.

The participants seemed happy that their products got an exposure.

The presentation of ‘Jeere Khursani’, a comedian group and folk duet songs competition were the major attraction of the four-day long Gorkha festival.
